DIY Software Segment
This industry segment functions primarily through the Internet. Companies selling DIY recovery software have websites where customers can pay online through credit card and either download the software immediately to their hard drives or order an installation CD.
DIY data recovery is strictly meant to tackle cases of data loss due to minor software errors, such as accidental deletion of files and purging of recycle bin or reformatting of storage media by the user. The buyer has to follow the instructions of the DIY software to recover data.
Many companies these days offer a trial version of their software which can be downloaded for free. Once the customer is satisfied with the capabilities of the product, only then he or she is expected to purchase the software. data recovery software
Professional Recovery Segment
DIY software is unable to recover data in cases of hardware errors like crashed hard disks or broken optical disks as well as serious software errors. This is where professional data recovery companies come in. The customer has to physically send the data storage device to the recovery company. The latter has trained technicians who can take the storage device apart and extract the data through specialised hardware and software.
One of the most important assets a professional recovery has is a clean room. This is an enclosed space where the flow of air is strictly regulated. It passes through various layers of filters till all suspended matter and contaminants such as dust particles, pollen, skin flakes and even odour vapour are removed. In such clean air, dust-sensitive devices such as hard disks can be safely disassembled and repaired.
